Self Release [Release date – out now]
Chasing Lana are a four piece from Melbourne, Australia. They were formed in 2012 by Dave Cutting, singer/songwriter, and play regularly in their home town. This is their first EP with four tracks featured, ‘From The Inside’, ‘Down Again’, ‘Disarray’ and ‘Pain’.
Chasing Lana cite Nirvana and Seether as influences and aim to play music with a raw and grungy vibe. This comes across well in this EP, the four tracks are all well played and the music is lead by punchy bass and drum rhythms played by Matt Simmons and Ash Hall. The guitar work of Robbie Cutting is equally well played and the whole is held together by the grungy vocals of Dave.
I particularly enjoyed the first track, ‘From The Inside’, a bouncy song with plenty of bass, number two, ‘Down Again’ starts with a good riff, ‘Disarray’ is a bit slower with quite a bit of repetition and ‘Pain’ speeds things up again. The four tracks are catchy and well performed but I feel they are all fairly similar in style, perhaps the four tracks were a good idea, any more and the listener would be in danger of becoming bored.
Hopefully the band will keep at it and next time produce an album with a few more twists and turns as they definitely have plenty of talent. ***
