EP review: GENERATION GRAVEYARD – Lonewolves

Generation Graveyard - Lonewolves

Self Release [Release date – 21st July 2014]

Generation Graveyard are a five-some from London who play hard hitting, punk/black metal. This six track EP, ‘Lonewolves’, is their official debut and it is a very good introduction to the band.  Their first EP, ‘Poison city’, was apparently considered to be more of a demo. GenGrave  have supported the likes of The Misfits and The Anti-Nowhere League and have recently played in support for Breed 77 on their UK tour.

The EP starts with ‘Abominate/Desolate’, a powerful, heavy track with a good fast rhythm and is followed by ‘Human Hive’, a punky track which has plenty of repetition so you find yourself headbanging along with the punchy vocals. However the vocals remain almost exactly the same, fairly monotone but blasted forcefully, throughout every track. By the time I was on track four, ’Deletist’, I was feeling the lack of any tune.

The band play well, obviously there is talent here, unfortunately the vocals need more variety for the band to truly shine.  The bonus track which finishes the EP, a remix of ‘Human Hive’, is more lively and catchy than what goes before, with a ‘dance’ vibe, surprisingly enjoyable!

On the whole, not a bad EP, I have heard better but if Generation Graveyard were playing in support I may turn up early to the gig to catch them.  ***
