EP review: SECOND RATE ANGELS – The Lost Days

Second Rate Angels are a foursome from Hemel Hempstead and formed in 2011. They have performed at the Bloodstock Open Air Festival and played in support to Breed 77 amongst others. ‘The Lost Days’ is their debut EP and it’s a good one.

‘Give It A Name’ opens proceedings with a massive riff. The music comes hard, fast and loud throughout. The vocals of Dave Gobran suit the music perfectly, tuneful in the melodic passages and blasted out aggressively in the harder parts.

The music is fiery and fast, Chris Lewis and Matt Clark on guitar, Dave Gobran providing the bass and Andy Doran on drums all in all a talented and polished performance.

Metal as it should be played, hard, fast and loud with catchy tracks. In parts they remind me of early ‘Maiden’, especially in the title track. Track four, ‘Black Ice’ features a repetitive chorus, one for audience participation perhaps?

They describe their sound as ‘Metal and Roll, with big vocals and even bigger guitars’, a fair description.

The Lost Days is a smashing EP, when is the album coming out?? ****1/2
