enkElination [Release date 21.07.14]
Finnish opera singer Elina Siirala moved to the UK back in 2008 in order to study music. She formed enkElination back in 2011 and “Tears of Lust” is their first full album following on from an EP back in September 2012.
In case you were wondering the band name is derived from Elina’s own name and also from “enkeli” which means angel in Finnish…so angel nation maybe…
Now to the music…well it’s all very pleasant in feel from the first single Tears of Lust through to final track Last Time Together but something is missing…it all just sort of washes over you.
enkElination plough a similar furrow to bands such as Touchstone, Mostly Autumn and early Within Temptation with Elina’s crystal clear vocals soaring over everything. The vocals cannot be faulted, however, the quality and lack of variation in the song writing is my main problem with Tears of Lust…as a result the songs all sort of blend into one another with nothing really jumping out at you.
Hopefully the band will persevere and next time produce the goods…a solid if uninspiring debut. ***
