Quick plays: 23 ACEZ, LEFT FOR RED

Album review: 23 ACEZ – Redemption Wave

Mighty Music (Release date 12.01.15)

A bit of Belgian rock in the shape of 23 Acez who have been together since 2010. Formed by Benny Willaert the four piece play it straight, this is melodic rock with no frills. Don’t let that put you off though as the guys are a talented bunch and the music they produce, whilst nothing new or ground breaking, is entertaining,

Two tracks that did catch my attention were the title track, ‘Redemption Waves’, which builds from a slow start into a full on rocker and ‘The Bigger Picture’ which is a classic power ballad, big, bold and heartfelt.

A good effort then if a little generic.

Album review: LEFT FOR RED – All Things Known And Buried

Burning Halo Records (Release date – 27.04.15)

Left For Red hail from the Midlands of England, long an area with a rich history of producing some of the founding fathers of the metal genre. In fact the accompanying blurb name checks the likes of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Diamond Head as influences along with more modern rock like Down, Tool and Strapping Young Lad. On paper then things look good.

The reality though falls some way short of matching that exulted company. Instead of a full-on hard rock and metal onslaught the band serve up lukewarm, melodic heavy rock which disappoints. Listening through the album there are decent songs and it is far from a bad album however, possibly even worse, it rarely makes it above mediocre.

Left For Red may entertain if you come across them on a festival bill somewhere on a sunny afternoon, but ‘All Things Known And Buried’ is not an album I will be rushing back to.
