Album review: TARJA – Luna Park Ride

TARJA - Lune Park Ride

earMUSIC [Released 01.06.15]

Earmusic certainly keep Tarja Turunen’s name in the limelight, even if she is between new albums, releasing the live ‘Beauty and the Beast’ last year and now this new live album, recorded at  Buenos Aires’ Luna Park back in 2011.

The first disc is the whole concert and includes some Nightwish songs like ‘Stargrazers’ and the rather good version of ‘Wishmaster’. Tarja knows her audience and includes a cover of Soda Stereo’s ‘Signos’ – if like me you had not heard of this band a quick search reveals they hailed from Argentina and are regarded as one of the most influential Latin Rock bands in history.

The concert includes a sterling version of ‘I Walk Alone’ and for a little fun a megamix of some 80′s tunes including Belinda Carlisle’s ‘Heaven Is A Place On Earth’ and Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’. Needless to say these prove a hit with the crowd!

The second disc includes lots of live bonus songs including a selection from Masters Of Rock in the Czech Republic in 2010 and more recently, Germany’s Summerbreeze festival from last year. The latter includes ‘Never Enough’ and ‘Victim Of Ritual’, two of her more recent solo songs that are rather good.

The DVD is interesting as it contains fan filmed footage, like one big YouTube mix! The quality varies dramatically, however must be cool if as a fan your film footage is included.

One for fans only and no new material, just a good live memento for her many followers. ****
