Album review: SHOTGUN RODEO – World Wide Genocide

SHOTGUN RODEO - World Wide Genocide

Shotgun Rodeo hail from Norway and have released a couple of EP’s prior to this their first full length album release. The band consists of Nino Escopeta (vocals), Don Shrediablo (guitars), Dorian Crazed (bass) and Vegzilla (drums).

They mix many styles of metal from thrash through to death metal grunts and good, old classic heavy metal. ‘Drown’ took me back to the days of listening to early Anthrax and Megadeth, with razor sharp riffs and a caustic lyric. For something completely different there is the acoustic ‘Dying Inside’, a real surprise given the relentless riffing elsewhere on the album.

Songs like ‘Saving Myself’, a real fist pumping metal anthem, and the chugging ‘Fear & Psychosis’ are made for the live arena. The latter has Nino Escopeta doing his best Rob Halford impression, great stuff. The drumming and guitars on this one need to be heard, they will blow the cobwebs away.

A long time since I have really listened to an album as heavy as this and I really enjoyed it! Shotgun Rodeo would sit perfectly on a label like Nuclear Blast or Spinefarm, as they deserve to be on big independent label.  ****
