EP review: BROKEN WITT REBELS – Georgia Pine

[Released 01.04.16]  https://www.facebook.com/BrokenWittRebelsUK/

Broken Witt Rebels hail from Birmingham (UK), not Alabama as you may be mistaken for  thinking after listening to their southern rock tinged sound on this five song EP. The band consists of Danny Core (vocals/rhythm guitar), Luke Davis (vocals/bass), James Tranter (vocals/lead Guitar) and James Dudley (drums/percussion).

‘Low’ is out already as a single and it is a beast of  a tune, from the catchy chorus through to the gospel break midway through the song. The vocals do remind me of Reef and they successfully tap into that classic rock/southern rock sound of bands like the Answer, Blackberry Smoke and the Black Crowes on this song and ‘Getaway Man’. On the latter James Tranter lets rip on the guitar, sterling stuff.

Interestingly on ‘Guns’ they go down a more indie rock sound, again the vocals and music blend so well, and yes Mr Tranter is all over this solo with another top notch solo. His guitar playing and the vocals of Danny Core really help this band stand out from the crowd. Mind you, not to be outdone bassist Luke Davis lays down a lovely Free-like groove on the title track.

This band have seemingly popped out of nowhere (they released an EP in 2014) and look set to make a big impression this year and beyond. Along with the awesome Inglorious album, this EP is another ‘must have’ for 2016. ****1/2
