Album review: SINBREED – Master Creator

SINBREED – Master Creator

German power metal band Sinbreed return with their new opus “Master Creator” which follows on from 2014’s “Shadows”.

The band line-up has remained unchanged with vocalist Herbie Langhans (recently to be heard singing the part of “Eclipse” on the latest Avantasia release), founder guitarist Flo Laurin, bassist Alexander Schulz and Blind Guardian drummer Frederik Ehmke.

A slight spanner has been thrown in the works with guitarist Marcus Siepen (also Blind Guardian) parting ways with the band shortly before the release date.

“Shadows” was very efficient power metal but lacked any real variation. “Master Creator” kicks off in a similar vein with Creation Of Reality with its relentless drums and a very classic Helloween sound. Things pass in a blur and before you know it title track Master Creator is in progress and again is reminiscent of classic Helloween.

More light and shade was needed last time out and Sinbreed have obliged this time with the wonderful At The Gate…piano introduction, much slower in tempo and highly atmospheric throughout. Nicely done. Closer On The Run features a bit of marching music near the end with the memorable “conquerors over land and sea” refrain repeated.

“Master Creator” is more of the same from Sinbreed…very efficient power metal, emotive powerful vocals and tight playing…but this time everything is improved. There is more melody to be found with repeated listening, there is more variation.

If Helloween, Primal Fear, Running Wild, Accept, Gamma Ray are your thing then you will appreciate Sinbreed.

Solid release and let’s hope the subtle variations continue for future releases.  ***½
