Quick plays: FIELD MOUSE, THE AMAZING

FIELD MOUSE - Episodic

FIELD MOUSE – Episodic

US band who expanded from a two-piece that made the debut album, ‘Hold Still Life’, to this album’s line-up of Rachel Browne (vocals/guitar), Andrew Futral (guitar), Saysha Heinzman (bass), Tim McCoy (drums) and Zoë Browne (synth/Rhodes/vocals).

The songs are on the whole jaunty 90′s indie pop, bit like Republica or St Etienne. The vocals are sprightly  enough and tunes like ‘Accessory’ and ‘Over And Out’ you can picture being played in hipster bars. It just lacks that bit of ‘wow’ factor, perfectly listenable though. ***

THE AMAZING – Ambulance

You have to have some gall to call your band the Amazing given the meaning of the word. This is a Swedish band led by Christoffer Gunrup and features members of Dungen.

‘Tracks’ is like Pink Floyd jamming with Anathema, wonderful resonating guitar on this backed by loops and the airy vocals of Christoffer. ‘Moments Like These’ is like Mumford & Sons without all the shouting, a lovely tune and lyric. You do really need to hear the Amazing’s music as words alone can’t really do them justice.

They do save one of the best songs until last, ‘Perfect Day For Shrimp’ that lulls you in and has you drifting away in the music, wondrous stuff.

Beautiful sounds throughout this album mean they do indeed live up to the band name. ****
