DVD review: GOD BLESS OZZY OSBOURNE

Eagle Classics

The DVD was originally released back in 2011 and now gets a budget re-issue as part of the Eagle Classics series. Directed by Ozzy’s son Jack and Mike Fleiss, this is a no-holds barred look back at Ozzy’s life and career to date.

The film takes the story chronologically interspersed with live footage of the then current world tour. There are lots of fascinating insights in the wonderful and weird world of Ozzy Osbourne, be it him warming-up pre-gig in modern day or him cringing when watching those mid-80′s music videos of himself. Don’t worry Ozzy not many of us want to watch ‘The Ultimate Sin’ video again!

He does come across as very genuine and in the Q&A section with Jack seemed at a loss why the two children from his first marriage did not have great memories of him. But then he openly praises Sharon and Jack for getting him on the road to sobriety, a road which he has wandered off a fair few times it has to be said.

Plenty of plaudits from fellow musicians and good interviews with the fellow members of Black Sabbath. Geezer Butler and Bill Ward in particular give good background as to what made the four of them pursue a musical path.

Fascinating to see his sisters and brother speaking about him and they all come together at a surprise 60th birthday party for him, which is included in the film. Not a DVD I would personally watch over and over, however any fan of Ozzy or Sabbath should see this at least once, just to get a glimpse at the real Ozzy.
