METAL ALLEGIANCE – Fallen Heroes Nuclear Blast [Release date 12.08.16]
Metal Allegiance is a metal supergroup whose current line-up includes Megadeth’s Dave Ellefson, Alex Skolnick (Testament), Mike Portnoy and Mike Menghi. This three song EP pays tribute to the recent deaths of three pivotal musicians – namely Lemmy, David Bowie and Glenn Frey of the Eagles.
Each of the three covers features a guest vocalist and all three are inspired choices. Mastodon’s Troy Sanders growls his way through the Motorhead classic ‘Iron Fist’, whilst Death Angel’s Mark Osegueda gives Bowie’s ‘Suffragette City’ a metal tinge, as do the guitar solos, very tasty indeed. The EP’s curveball comes with Arch Enemy’s Alissa White-Gluz singing on the Eagles’ ‘Life In The Fast Lane’. This is one heavy mutha of a song, from the vocals through the loud guitar and incessant drumming of Mike Portnoy.
A fitting tribute and an enjoyable EP, although bizarrely one you wish they didn’t have to make given the musical heroes are no longer with us. ****

LOVE/LESS – Act 1: Heaven [Release date 09.09.16]
Love/Less are five-piece London based band whose latest four song EP is a self-released affair. They hark back to bands like Linkin Park in their prime favouring big choruses soaked in massed backing vocals and synths/electronica. A song like ‘Heaven’ you just can’t get out of your head after a few plays and ‘Ghost’ is another one that won’t leave your head’s playlist. ‘Ghost’ really would give Linkin Park a run for their money and love the ebbs and flows of the music.
Impressive EP and given the band’s ease with which they write anthems you can see this band doing well, especially with fans of bands like Sleeping With Sirens and Linkin Park. ****

INTO THE FIRE - S/T Pavement Entertainment [Release date 30.09.16]
Into The Fire were formed back in 2013 and arhttp://getreadytorock.me.uk/blog/wp-admin/post.php?post=39969&action=edit&message=10e feature vocalist/guitarist Bryan Scott (THE UNION UNDERGROUND), bassist Tim King (SOiL), guitarist Adam Zadel (SOiL) ad drummer Will Hunt (EVANESCENCE). Although a three song EP, there are two versions of ‘Spit You Out’, one being an alternate version.
‘Spit You Out’ sounds like a cross between latter day Buckcherry and Nickelback, the latter more in the guitar sound. The song grabs you from the opening, a real hard rock belter. ‘From The Medicine’ starts off slowly building to a big chorus, complete with some very tasty riffs.
Into The Fire have a couple of good tunes on their hands here and hopefully a full album’s worth of songs won’t be to far away. Modern hard rock is their thing and they do it well. ****
