Album review: DANIELE LIVERANI – An Innocent Challenge

Lion Music [Release date 26.08.16]

Danielle Liverani was last seen with the rather good guitar instrumental album ‘Fantasia’ and now he has come back with a piano concerto! Classical and rock music have always been linked, with many rock musicians heavily influenced by classical composers and Daniele Liverani is one of these.

On this album it is interesting to hear Danielle’s piano playing as he is known more for his fretboard wizardry. He has constructed four piano concertos and his work in the progressive rock field pays dividends, with each of the four pieces of music having peaks and flows, along with some epic/pomp moments. His piano playing on ‘Childhood Fading Away’ is simply stunning, be it a frantic playing of the keys or the more subdued playing towards the end of the piece.

The music is uplifting in its mood and perfect to unwind and relax to. ‘Meditation’ for example being a perfect example of doing what the title suggests, being a clam piece with gentle piano playing and musical accompaniment. The musical backing is spot on as well, with the piano accompanied by strings and keyboards.

Earlier this year we had Kip Winger go classical, now Danielle Liverani releases this album and it is highly recommended for rock fans who like to think and listen outside the box. ****
