ASTRALION Outlaw
Cliches ahoy! Rampant guitar solos – check; choral backing vocals – check; keyboards set to thrash mode – check. If you like Stratovarious and HammerFall you may like this, but they really need to get a few musical tweaks to set them apart.
The band formed in a pub in Finland and you could dub this pub power metal. Sorry but the endless solos and lack of any variety or melody means this is one album I won’t be playing again in a hurry. **

GEORGIA RUTH Fossil Scale
Navigator Records [Release date 07.10.16]
Georgia Ruth’s last album, ‘Week Of Pines’, won 2013′s Welsh Music Prize and she received rave reviews for her music.
On first listen it is her voice that grabs you – ethereal and high pitched, not unlike Kate Bush on ‘Cloudbroke’. Her voice is one that demands a listener’s attention and singing in her native tongue on ‘Sylvia’, you find yourself transported to a better place listening to this. Lots of little musical nuances to listen out for, be it it the fairground ride sound on ‘Grand Tour’ or the sampling on ‘The Bodies’.
Georgia Ruth will ride high on the wave of interest in folk music with a modern edge. Impressive songs matched by an equally impressive vocal, she can’t but fail to win over more fans to her music. ****
