Frontiers [Release date 24.02.17]
Lionville are back after an extended break (their second album came out in 2012) and they are on a new label as well. Lionville’s main man Stefano Lionetti is still on board, plus Work Of Art’s vocalist Lars Säfsund, whose singing style suits the AOR sound on this album down to the ground.
Lionville really nail that classic 80′s Toto sound on ‘Our Good Goodbye’, from the keys through to the percussion and backing vocals (if you didn’t know better you’d swear it was David Paich on backing vocals). ‘One More Night’ allows the band to add in a little jazzy keyboards which are swiftly followed by a soaring guitar solo. The band really have upped their game on this one paying attention to each little musical detail.
Of course this has all been done before, however as with any good melodic rock/AOR album they stand or fall by the quality of the songs and melodies. Luckily on this album we have both, AOR wig outs like ‘Show Me The Love’ and slow building ballads such as ‘Heaven Is Right Here’.
Easily the best of the band’s albums to date as they have a bigger sound and a lot more polish to the songs. Those who enjoy 80′s era Toto and Richard Marx would do well to invest in this one. ****
