EP review: RAINBREAKERS – Rise Up

[Release date 07.04.17]

Hailing from Shrewsbury, the Rainbreakers have released one EP previous to this one and have toured extensively, including garnering a rave review from GRTR! master of all things blues, Pete Feenstra, when the band supported Mountain’s drummer Corky Laing last November. The band’s line-up is Ben Edwards (vocals/rhythm guitar), Charlie Richards (lead guitar), Peter Adams (bass) and Sam Edwards (drums).

Although they have a sound blues base, their sound encompasses psychedelic, soul (Ben Edwards has lovely soulful vocal tone) and a very laid back groove to their playing. ‘Perception’ with its steady, soulful beat being a prime example of the Rainbreakers ability to get a meaningful lyric across a mellow groove,

A song like ‘Rise Up’ is made for chilling out on summer’s day as the guitar’s gentle grooves help you drift away into the band’s music.

‘Living Free’ starts off with a slow drumbeat as the band gradually joins in to a rousing and rocking crescendo, recalling 70′s greats like Free. A jaw dropping solo by Charlie Richards towards the end of the song takes the song up to another level again. Yes the Rainbreakers really are that good and have plenty of potential based on this five song EP.

My only complaint is that it isn’t a whole album’s worth of songs. ****
