Frontiers [Release date 02.06.17]
Radiation Romeos is the new band featuring former Warrior and Steve Stevens’ Atomic Playboys vocalist Parramore McCarty – the band name comes from the Atomic Playboys album. He is joined by Dag Heyne (guitars), Jogi Spittka (bass) and Gereon Homann (drums), plus on production duties/co-writing we have Michael Voss (Casanova/MSG/Silver), so you know production wise this album will be spot on.
Paramore McCarty has lost none of his power, as he belts out on the title track and the hard rocking ‘Bad Bad Company’. Listen out for ‘Ocean Drive’ a melodic rock monster with a gloriously feel good chorus. Recalls Night Ranger and Survivor at their peak. ‘Til The End Of Time’ ploughs a similar musical furrow.
The ballad ’Like An Arrow’ reminded me of the Scorpions, again a strong melody that stands up to repeated plays. ‘Mystic Mountain’ is a bit plodding, and on a similar lyrical theme (aliens and monsters), ‘Monstertraxx’ sounds like Blue Oyster Cult. A strong song to end the album on.
Unlike some recent Frontiers releases that can sound a little formulaic and lacking in an individual sound, this one hits the melodic hard rock spot and then some. Highly recommended and here’s hoping we get some more albums from the Radiation Romeos in the not too distant future. ****
