Frontiers [Release date 13.10.17]
Robin Beck first came to the attention of the record buying public here in the UK in 1988 when she released the massively successful “First Time” single, helped by its inclusion in an advert for a well-known soft drink. However, her debut album was actually released some nine years before that and in 2017 we see the release of her tenth studio album “Love Is Coming”, and rather good it is too.
With a solid AOR feel to it and a voice that is as powerful as ever, the album deserves to grace the charts. The album was produced by Clif Magness and House of Lords frontman (and Beck’s husband) James Christian – interestingly Magness also had a hefty hand in the song writing and played most of the instruments on the album (there are appearances from Tommy Denander and John Huldt on guitar and Christian on keyboards), thus adding to the consistency of “Love Is Coming”.
The album itself is packed with quality songs and at times almost has the feel of a more mature Avril Lavigne- not surprising as Magness has also worked closely with her in the past. Highlights include “Island”, “In These Eyes”, “Girl Like Me”, “If You Only Knew”, “Crave The Touch” and title track “Love Is Coming”.
Great album, great voice – I look forward to some UK shows in 2018. ****
