Album review: THE GLORIOUS SONS – Young Beauties And Fools

THE GLORIOUS SONS - Young Beauties And Fools

Earache Records [Release 23.02.18]

The Glorious Sons were formed back in 2011, hailing from Kingston, Canada the line-up is Brett Emmons (vocals, guitar, harmonica, keys), Jay Emmons and Chris Koster (guitar, vocals), Adam Paquette (drums, vocals) and Chris Huot (bass). This, their second album, has already been released in their native Canada where it reached number 16 and now the band get a UK release, along with increasing exposure on the likes of Planet Rock.

The album has songs that leap out at you after just one listen, with ‘My Poor Heart’ and ‘Josie’, cleverly mixing rock sounds with beats/keys. They can easily slip into a bot of straight ahead rock though as ‘Godless, Graceless and Young’ confirms. The backing vocals and guitars recall the Stones in their prime, impressive stuff.

‘Come Down’ with its insistent 80′s synth riff is a blockbuster of a tune, with a few gems in the lyric such as ‘We got your daddy’s credit card, for God’s sakes lets get high’. The whole mix of 80′s pop and modern beats recalls New Politics.

Clocking in at just over thirty minutes the Glorious Sons have mastered the art of making a point in a three minute song, no excess in the music here, just songs that hit the spot.

The Glorious Sons have already conquered their homeland and now look set to continue their bid for musical world domination, okay more realistically decent album sales and sell out gigs, judging by this album.  ****
