Album review: STONELAKE – Thunder And Rain

 STONELAKE - Thunder And Rain

MelodicRock Records [Release date 20.04.18]

This is album number seven from StoneLake, who return with their first album in five years and the band’s first for MelodicRock Records. The band features founder members Jan Akesson (S.A.Y./Jan Akesson’s Shadow Rain) on guitars and keys and vocalist Peter Grundstrom, along with bass player Lasse Johansson and Jens Westberg on drums.

Bit of a Thin Lizzy guitar sound on ‘Don’t Lose The Faith In Your Heart’, one of the album’s stand outs. One band that keeps coming to mind when listening to songs ‘Where Are You Running’ or the title track, are long lost melodic/pomp rockers Skagarack, mainly down to the high octave vocals of Peter Gundstrom and the keys, which are often set to full on pomp mode!

There are ballads and ‘Dreams’ is a classic one, plenty of passion in the vocals and a soaring chorus line, coupled with a nifty guitar solo.

StoneLake have produced a solid piece of melodic hard rock that has enough hints of the classic 80′s melodic rock sound of bands like Europe and Skagarack to keep fans of that time happy, whilst having enough modern sheen to appeal to those after a more modern melodic fix. ***1/2
