Soulseller Records [Release date 29.06.18]
Dorian Sorriaux is the guitarist in Blues Pills where he has gained many plaudits for his playing with comparisons to legendary blue guitarists such as Peter Green and Paul Kossoff. On this EP he has channelled a different muse and sound going back to his love of acoustic folk and singer songwriters like Neil Young, Nick Drake and Tim Buckley.
He is joined by Emelie Sjostrom (vibraphone) and Blues Pills touring member Rikard Nygren (Fender Rhodes piano), who add a 70′s vibe to the acoustic guitar and singing of Dorian Sorriaux.
Neil Young certainly hangs heavily in the music, not least as Dorian can reach those trademark high notes of Neil Young. The title track ably demonstrates this, whilst ‘Hello My Friend’ is simply stunning with a gently strummed guitar and the captivating vocals of Dorian. Prefect for those seemingly endless mood/focus playlists on Spotify or for late night listening.
Be interesting to see if Dorian Sorriaux follows up this EP as he produced an intriguing and enjoyable listen as he taps into his true musical love and muse. ***1/2
