EP review: THE JUPITER BLUES

Facebook [Release date 01.09.18]

Formed in 2017 under the moniker Jupiter Hollow, the Jupiter Blues play a mix of blues, southern rock and a little bit of soul. The band’s line-up is Dale Orenda (vocals, percussion), Chris Mitchell (lead guitar) Rick Davies (bass, keys, backing vocals) and Ross Brown (drums, percussion) and they have been making a name for themselves on the live scene in the North West.

This EP is produced by Michael Johnson, who has worked with bands such as Joy Division and New Order and based on the four songs on this EP the Jupiter Blues have tunes to grab your attention. Pick of the EP is the southern rock flavoured ‘While The Sun’, where the extended guitar workout recalls bands like the Allman Brothers and the Outlaws. It has a little bit of country in the mix as well. More songs like this one please and ‘Six Foot Bulldog’, one of those songs with a light hearted lyric that you know will be a live favourite. Apparently said bulldog is good for seeing off the taxman…

‘Stinging’ is a decent foot stomping rocker whilst ‘Little Moon’ is a short, gentle acoustic song allowing vocalist Dale Orenda a chance to show his quieter singing voice, as he is fair belting it out on the aforementioned ‘Stinging’.

The Jupiter Blues show plenty of promise on this EP and definitely a band to see live. ****
