Album review: JEREMY & THE HARLEQUINS – Remember This

JEREMY & THE HARLEQUINS – Remember This

Yep Roc Records [Release date 01.03.19]

Jeremy Fury is the singer and main songwriter in the band, which is completed by guitarists Craig Bon and Patrick Meyer, bassist Bobby Ever and Jeremy’s brother Stevie Fury on drums. They have released two albums to date since forming in 2015.

They aim to recreate the classic 50’s and 60’s rock ‘n’ roll sound and have already had their songs appear in the Tom Cruise film ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ and Marvel’s ‘Luke Cage’. Rick Parker (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts) helped to co-produce the album, which has a sharp sound that allows the guitars and rhythm section to complement each other, rather than one drown out the other.

They certainly kick out the jams on ‘California Rock’, with its Chuck Berry approved guitar, or on the single ‘Little One’.

Jake Bugg made a big splash with his rock ‘n’ roll flavoured debut album and Jeremy & the Harlequins could easily do the same given some airplay for ‘With You’.

‘Who’s Gonna Save Us?’ throws it all in musically, featuring horns, along with a bit of bar room piano battling it out with the guitars. ‘Starlight’ has already won rave reviews, this time the song has a little hint of 70’s Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen has often tipped his own musical hat at traditional rock ‘n’ roll.

Their rock ‘n’ roll version of Madonna’s ‘Like A Prayer’ could see them pick up new listeners on the streaming sites and it is a mighty fine cover.

Jeremy & the Harlequins ensure the future of rock ‘n’ roll is in safe hands and hopefully they can help propel it back into the mainstream again. ****
