Album review: PETER H. NILSSON – Little American Dream

PETER H. NILSSON – Little American Dream

AOR Heaven [Release date 29.03.19]

Swedish guitar player Peter H. Nilsson has been in the music business for many years in different bands in and extensive touring in his native Sweden. He hooked-up with singer Chris Biano (a Nashville based singer/songwriter) via the Soundbetter website and they recorded their first song together in 2017. Drummer Jason Meekins and bassist Patrik Adiels were added to complete the recording line-up.

‘You Better Run’ sounds like a long lost 80’s AOR tune, albeit with a modern sound. The sound/production on the album are excellent, which is what any good AOR album needs to fully appreciate the music and songs. ‘Rumours’ is another sublime tune, hints of Toto with another sizzling guitar solo.

‘Am I Dreaming’ is a piece of heavy AOR – not unlike something of 2017’s excellent comeback by Boulevard. Peter H. Nilsson knows when to add in solo and when he does they are top quality. Also, Chris Biano is a real find, his rich and melodic singing is perfect for the music on here.

Of course there are ballads, try ‘Timeless’ for size. Gentle guitar (with a suitably fine solo midway through), slow and easy rhythm section, piano and those soothing vocals of Chris Biano rounding it all off nicely.

A little gem of an AOR/West Coast album that was released independently at the end of last year, however good to see it getting a full release and wider exposure via AOR Heaven.  ****
