ERICA DRIVE The Hate, The Hurt, The Healing
“The Hate, The Hurt, The Healing” is the new four track EP from UK band Erica Drive. With the band having only been together since 2017, they have already developed somewhat of a fan base and are now on their second EP.
Unfortunately, for me, this feels almost a paint by numbers affair that is heavily influenced by late 90′s/early ‘00’s pop punk and whilst this is inoffensive to my ears, it is a bit predictable and nothing new.
“All We Are” and “Anchor” are perfectly described above, the latter though has a more melodic feel and is one of the two stronger tracks on the EP, the other being “The Fall”, a fuller, slower number.
The EP is rounded off by “Better Man”, this has a deeper feeling but the guitars do seem to be at odds with each other at times and this kind of detracts from the song itself.
“The Hate, The Hurt, The Healing” is not a bad record but the band now need to use this to step into their own sound and grow from there. **1/2
