Indie [Release date 17.04.20]
French born guitarist Felix Rabin has packed a lot into his career to date, being spotted as a talent by Quincy Jones at the Montreux Jazz festival, supporting Wishbone Ash on their mammoth 2018 tour and supporting fellow rising blues rock star Samantha Fish on her tour this year.
The EP’s title comes from a guitar special effects pedal, which I am assuming gets a thorough workout on ‘Walk’, the opening number of this six song EP. His melodic vocals rise above the lovely distorted guitar tones. ‘Moving On’ is a more laid back affair, one for fans of melodic hard rock and the horns add to the smooth, classy feel of the music.
‘Say (You Won’t Leave Me)’ is a more standard blues rock affair, again the added horns add that little bit of extra class and if features one of the guitar solos of the EP. Felix Rabin certainly knows how to create memorable solos. ‘Angels’ is okay, however the seven minutes plus of ‘Death’ is a tour de force of passionate guitar and a jazzy air, notably on the trumpet solo. ‘Gone’ rounds thins off in an upbeat tempo, with a big riff, horns and Hammond organ all thrown into the musical mix.
Felix Rabin certainly packed a lot in on his debut EP. Now the challenge is for him to find the musical groove he feels comfortable in, however one things for sure he is a talent to watch and listen out for. More please! ****
