THE DARKER MY HORIZON Carpe Diem
Another band utilising their lockdown time wisely are the Darker My Horizon, who made the video with help from their fans with all proceeds going to the NHS charities. Nice riff-tastic tune with lyrics timely for the current situation.
Folk duo Milton Hide has been busy of late, not only with recording their now delayed debut album, but also recording this new single. Written during the current pandemic, ‘Kindness’ is something we all need more of and to do more in some cases. Gentle melody, thoughtful lyrics and some nice vocal harmonising, job done! Part of the proceeds go to a local homeless charity.
ALLAN CLARKE He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother
Former Hollies vocalist Allan Clarke has revisited one of the band’s biggest hits as a fundraiser for the NHS charities. A simple arrangement of the song, with composer Francis Haines on piano, it allows Clarke’s vocals and the lyrics to take centre stage.
Sounding more like a legal firm, Champlin, Williams and Freidstet are finally set to release their second album. CWF sees Toto vocalist Joseph Williams team up with former Chicago vocalist Bill Champlin and guitarist/producer Peter Friestedt. The song is super smooth, conjuring up the classic Toto album ‘Fahrenheit’, with Williams vocals sounding as good as ever. A real melodic treat on the ears and bodes well for the album, which lovers of West Coast AOR will be keen to own.
THE LICKERISH QUARTET Fabdoodle
The Lickerish Quartet release their debut EP in July and it will be of particular interest to fans of the much missed Jellyfish, as three members of that band – Roger Manning, Eric Dover and Tim Smith – make up the Lickerish Quartet. Stunningly catchy power pop perfection sums this song up perfectly. Really looking forward to hearing their debut EP.
