Rosie Music [Release date 31.07.20]
Laura Evans has released a couple of singles earlier this year – the EP’s title track and ‘Drag Me Back In’ – both of which are on this five song EP. Laura Evans has been earning her live stripes too, having appeared at country festivals and supporting the Shires.
Musically she sets her stall out between country and blues, with a lovely soulful vocal that reminds you of Stevie Nicks at times.
‘Drag Me Back In’ has a nice bluesy feel, showcasing her rockier vocals. The sound is spot on thanks to Josiah J Manning, keyboardist and music producer for the Kris Barras Band. It is always a treat to hear each instrument clearly in the mix.
‘Running Back To You’ has already done well on the country charts and you can see why, given the song’s strong melody. This one and ‘Aberdare’ show Laura Evans’ country side off well. ‘Aberdare’ works really well, as given the sound and gentle guitar, you’d think it was a song based around a town in the US, instead of being about a town in Wales! Nicely done and again the production and musical backing is top notch.
‘Mess Of Me’ is interesting, as Laura Evans goes down the ballader route, just her vocal and piano for much of the song. Another song that could make radio or playlists.
The EP closes with an acoustic version of ‘Running Back To You’.
Laura Evans is a rising star that’s for sure, who can appeal to both the country and blues markets. Her songs have the appeal to be played on daytime radio with plenty of crossover appeal. ****
