Infamous Butcher Records [Release date 17.07.20]
Moonlight Desires are a covers band hailing from Canada and their 2017 release, ‘Just The Hits 1981-85′ was good fun. This time they are still on a covers theme, going back to the 1980′s again giving four movie songs the Moonlight Desire once over.
Moonlight Desires are built around the brothers Trevor and Jay Ziebarth, who utilise a variety of musicians for both studio and live versions of the band.
‘Glory Of Love’ (originally by former Chicago singer Peter Cetera) sounds pretty similar to the original, with the guitars replacing the keys. However, ‘Hungry Eyes’, a hit for Eric Carmen first time around, has an almost frantic metal fade out. Sounds like it shouldn’t work but it does.
‘The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough’ is okay, to be fair the original by Cyndi Lauper was no great shakes either. The EP’s final song is a rollicking verison of the Simple Minds classic ‘Don’t You Forget About Me’. Plenty of guitar and an excellent cover version.
Just the tonic we need in these times, putting a little smile on your face and plenty of riffs for your bucks. ***1/2
