EP review: LEWIS CLAY – Idle Hands

Website [Release date 25.12.20]

2020 has been a right shit show of that there can be no doubt, and it has hit the performing arts and live arena very badly, especially as most don’t manage to qualify for anyor little government support.

Take singer songwriter Lewis Clay as a prime example…he had a summer of shows lined up on cruises as part of his male vocal rock tribute Our Lady Valentine. Then along comes a pandemic and puts an end to all that planning, rehearsing and graft.

That would knock many back but those who are passionate about what they do find a way and adapt. In the case of musicians they create and we are starting to hear & see the fruits of these endeavours now and over the coming months.

Lewis Clay has a new five song, digital only EP out on Christmas Day and why not, as each day has felt pretty much the same this year! The driving Foo Fighters approved rock on ‘I’ll Be There’ is massively addictive. A real caffeine fuelled rocker. Do check out the accompanying YouTube video.

‘Burn’ is another brash and breezy rocker, whilst ‘Solipsism’ mixes a bit of philosophy and rock ‘n’ roll, as you do. The guitar riffs and drums never let up on this one.

‘Yeah Yeah Yeah’ is an interesting one…the full on electric version, with a hint of a jangly riff, could easily grace an album by the Wildhearts. Whereas the acoustic version proves that a good song can work in any form.

As the man himself neatly sums up the EP in the EPK – “Cheaper than a festive Starbucks – Twice as bad for you”. Music for the here and now, keeping you entertained whilst getting you thinking at the same time. Crank it up and enjoy. ****
