Single review: EVOLUTION ROAD – Gold Digger

Doug Bryan’s collective concept ‘Evolution Road’ have released their first single “Gold Digger” and it seriously deserves some air play!

I chatted to Doug about the collective concept, rather than a band, there’s much talent packed into this line up for  “Gold Digger” and it will be an open door concept depending on other work commitments and who wants to get involved.

What’s next, well the plan is to keep on releasing singles and build up to an album release, adapting to how people tend to listen to music these days, with playlists.

You might think that’s a familiar story, another track about a “Gold Digger”, but that is not the point, this is a song to empower anyone who has been in this situation and it’s one most if not all, of us can relate to.

During our chat, Doug makes it clear that his song writing has to be meaningful, it needs to be relatable and that this song is personal to him and his past, and I know he’s far from alone.

“It’s about when you realize you are the one being taken advantage of be it physically, emotionally, financially, name it, that when you are at your lowest point you dig down deep into your innermost depts of your soul, you look in the mirror and you say to yourself “NO MORE!”  And at that moment you learn that you need to love and value yourself and you need to get strong from the inside out. So you turn the tables on that person and you hit them back by beating them at their own game. And when you come out on top you will never ever allow that to be done to you again.  It’s a song of self-empowerment.”

This single is awesome, the collective sound like they have been together forever and it’s tight, long may it continue! “We came out of the gate with the bar set incredibly high.” I agree – can’t wait to hear what is next but for right now – as the man says “just push play and turn it up!”
