EP review: COUNCIL – It Runs In The Blood

Facebook [Release date 17.09.21]

Council is made up of the 3 brothers Reeves (Andy, Doug and Pat) who traded in a life of farming to pursue their true dream: writing and performing music. Last year’s EP was highly impressive and still features on my playlists nearly a year later.

Expectations were high then for these four new songs and happy to report that Council have done it again. The electronica on the title track is top notch and little wonder it has already been used by CBS Sports and Fox sports. That is a good song, however, ‘I See Sparks’ is simply superb – like Imagine Dragons around their ‘Evolve’ album. The band’s harmonies and electronica backing make this pretty special.

‘Faded Purple White Trash’ is a tad more indie rock, with its fast vocal coupled with a big beat, it is another fine song. Not a million miles away from the sort of music Steven Wilson produced on his latest album. ‘Still We Rise’ starts of slowly and leads into another glorious piece of vocal led music. This one is highly recommended for a headphones listen to fully experience the vocals and soundscape.

Council have only gone and done it again! Four songs, all have their own lasting appeal and really looking forward to where their musical muse takes them next. ****1/2
