Kissin’ Dynamite is a German band, formed in 2007. Entertaining the public with great albums for over 20 years, they now release their new album, ‘Not the End of the Road’, and it would be an understatement to call it just ‘good’.
The album starts with a catchy and melodic song, named as the album itself, ‘Not the End of the Road’. It goes on with ‘What Goes Up’ which draws a more ecstatic feeling to it – one to play at a party. ‘Good Life’ (featuring Saltatio Mortis/Alea, Guernica Mancini & Charlotte Wessels) is more melodic and innovative, combining feelings of hopefulness and love. Quite opposite to ‘Only the Dead’, which embraces the beauty of the unknown when it comes to being six feet under.
‘Yoko Ono’ goes slightly Pop-Rock style, making you want to dance and jump around – who says the 80’s has been forgotten? ‘Coming home’ will hit home for many people who have been away from their loved ones in the past 2 years, with everything that has happened around the world – but nonetheless it shows the greatness of the band for reaching to people’s emotions through their music.
‘All for a Halleluja’ brings the album back to its heavy metal feeling, with the intro guitars being outstanding. ‘No One Dies a Virgin’ is filled with great lyrics, such as ‘[…] it makes you lose your cocky winner-smile’ and ‘In the very end life f*cks us all’, which will definitely bring a smile on your face.
The 9th song in their album of 12, ‘Gone for Good’ reminds of me early Axel Rudi Pell with its glam feeling to it and lyrics like ‘Funny how all our yesterdays grow pale’. It also allows Hannes Braun to show his empowering and strong voice. ‘Defeat it’ follows the same route when it comes to emphasizing Braun’s voice and it is impossible not to like it.
‘Voodoo Spell’ brings back the excitement from the beginning of the album, being a super captivating and melodious song, including some tribal beats alongside an intense guitar. All that to introduce us to the last song of the album, ‘Scars’ which is a gentle, acoustic and mellow song. It brings a lot of emotion while listening to it and closes the album on a feeling of yearning for more. ***1/2
