EP review: OLD GLORY & THE BLACK RIVIERA – Subtle Reminder Of Somewhere

OLD GLORY & THE BLACK RIVIERA - Subtle Reminder Of Somewhere

Facebook [Release date 12.09.22]

Old Glory & The Black Riviera are a four piece Rock band from Stoke-on-Trent (extra kudos for coming from my homeland!) consisting of Jord Davies (Vocal & Guitar), Jay Meehan (Guitar & Vocals), Aaron Pointon (Bass) and Myles Pockett (Drums).

Five songs on here, all styled in the blues rock meets southern/hard rock sound the band love and have been influenced by. Not sure why we are seeing so many UK bands sounding like US southern based rock bands but long may it continue!

Every band needs their calling card song. One you can sing-a-long to and is a staple of any live set. Old Glory & The Black Riviera’s is ‘Jealous’, a good time rocker similar to early days Black Crowes and Bad Touch (they’d be an ideal match with these guys, the Answer or Little Red Kings).

‘Waiting For You (To Come Home)’ packs a powerful punch for a ballad allowing Jord Davies to show his undoubted vocal dexterity. Guitar solo of the EP is on this song as well. ‘Miracle’ features a neat guitar riff on this southern fried rocker.

‘Had It All’ and ‘Mountain’ are the other two songs on here which are solid enough and certainly not fillers.

Old Glory & The Black Riviera impress on this EP, their first since 2018, with their own take on the classic blues rock sound. Great on the ears and I am sure a live blast too. ***1/2
