Single review: REDEMPTION – I Am The Storm

AFM Records [release date 14.12.22]

Led from the front by multi instrumentalist, Nick Van Dyk, LA’s Power/Prog Metal maestros, Redemption aren’t the most prolific.

I Am The Storm, the album, due for release early 2023, is only the band’s third recording since 2011.

Over that period of time, Tom (Evergrey) Englund has become the band’s vocalist, joined by Vikram Shankar, known for his Silent Skies’ collaborations with Englund, and for keyboard sound orchestration on the recent Borealis album.

Out of that small world of immensely talented artists comes this fabulous title track.
Englund continuously turns up the vocal heat on Van Dyk’s world-in-turmoil polemic, conveying blasts of strident, accusatory phrases: “Monuments come tumbling down and expectations die”.

The unrelenting bass rhythms and noisy guitars ensure the song maintains forward momentum, matching Englund’s powerful lyrics, blow for blow.

Roll on 2023. ****
