Album review: DAVID EDWARD BOOTH – All My Days

The Recording Booth [Release date 23.06.23]

Derbyshire born David Edward Booth is a songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer based in rural Suffolk. David is also in-house producer and auxiliary writer/guitarist for The Knoydart Songwriting Retreat. He helped produce Kelly Bayfield’s ‘Wave Machine’ album (another fine album well worth your listening time), which was released earlier this year, and Kelly repays the favour by co-producing on this album, as well contributing vocals.

All of the songs are penned by David, ranging from the plaintive ‘Rainbows Of October’ through to the title track, a lovely piece of acoustic music featuring Kelly Bayfield’s vocals. It is an album of reflection, as ‘Another Me’ illustrates, with the album mixed and completed in the immediate weeks following the loss of his mother.

His background of playing in brass bands in his youth means that gentle brass feature on many of the songs. On ‘Blackbird’ this really adds an extra bit of magic, to a song already rich in the sounds of piano, cello and acoustic guitar. Not unlike Big Big Train’s sound a few years back.

With a vocal that is soothing on the ear, coupled with meaningful lyrics, David Edward Booth has produced a musically rich and highly enjoyable album. Those who enjoy the music of say Neil Finn and melodious acoustic songs will find much to enjoy on here. ***1/2
