Volkoren [Release date 25.05.24]
Singer songwriter Jenny Gajicki and producer Emil Sydhage have come together again for this latest piece of Scandi Noir (their debut ‘Interlude’ was in 2016).
Jenny has a vocal delivery not dissimilar to the late Dolores O’Riordan and in fact the vibe is like a hybrid Cranberries/First Aid Kit if a bit less animated . She has an electro pop background and ‘Kaleidoscope’ combines folky pop, electronica and gentle dance beats.
Among the standouts, ‘Is There Anybody Out There (ITAOt) ‘ a tale of being lost and lonely in “a messed up world” whilst the title track is about the complexities in a relationship and how reassuringly “it will be alright”. ‘All Of Me’ on the other hand describes a more straightforward surrender.
This appealing album needs a wider audience. ****
