Single review : KURT FROLICH – Another Heartbreak

Single release from Kurt Frolich, vocalist with Riley’s LA Guns.

It has only a passing resemblance to the music of his parent band.
Doesn’t make him a bad person, of course. In fact …

The first thing you’ll notice is the welcoming warmth of the production. The next perhaps will be the way in which this tale of fractured relationships appears to be framed in youthful optimism. The jury’s still out on that one.

And of course, Frolich’s vocals, ribboned with melancholy, do a persuasive job of matching style with substance, gloriously reminiscent of Power Pop’s most hypnotic moments, bringing to mind The Raspberries.

Frolich’s lovelife problems are never resolved in the song, and so its poppy immediacy exists alongside a deeper unease. It’s like we’re listening to the first chapter of a longer story. Roll on the album. ***
