Punk has always been about the ethos of doing it yourself and not worrying about over producing or even the musicianship (as the early Damned recordings show!). So when reviewing this UK based punk band’s debut album I bore this in mind, although the musicianship is good so no worries there. A four piece band consisting of former Scared Heart bass player Leigh Westwood on vocals, TKL (drums), Paul Anthony (bass/guitar/loops/vocals) and Nick Holland (guitar).
They have the classic UK punk sound with a little US influence and a knack for penning witty lyrics. Songs like ‘When I Grow Up’ and ‘Your Mum’s A Bomb’ are great fun and feature sharp riffs aplenty. ‘Mailorder Girlfriend’ could be Good Charlotte by way of say Sham 69, whilst they do a neat cover the Ramones classic ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’. There are a couple of hidden songs including a so-so cover of Thin Lizzy’s ‘Boys Are Back In Town’.
An assured debut and considering this was self-produced and financed a decent enough sound throughout. Punk pop with a humorous edge what’s not to like?
