Album review: L.R.S. – Down To The Core

L.R.S. - Down To The Core

Frontiers www.frontiers.it [Release date 21.03.14]

Some fans don’t like these endless studio projects Frontiers comes up with, more fool them as L.R.S. is one of the best in many a year. Comprising of former 21 Guns vocalist Tommy La Verdi he’s joined by guitarist Josh Ramos (The Storm) and Von Groove’s drummer Michael Shotton. The other secret musical ingredient though is Alessandro Del Vecchio who wrote many of the songs and produced the album, oh and played the keyboards and Hammond organ too!

This is classy AOR/melodic rock and then some. Check out the Journey/Storm approved ‘Our Love To Stay’ and ‘I Can Take You There’. Then there is the immense melodies on ‘Never Surrender’, like one of those uplifting tunes The Storm did so well in their prime. Lashings of keys and just the right amount of guitar crunch from Mr Ramos make this a mighty fine tune.

Of course we have the odd slower number too and closer ‘To Be Your Man’ shows what a great vocal Tommy La Verdi has. An absolute treat from start to finish, from one of the strongest musical projects Frontiers has put together in years. I really hope that L.R.S. get the chance not only to perform live but have at least another album in them. It may not yet be summer but the soundtrack is already here… ****1/2
