THE BERMONDSEY JOYRIDERS – Brian Jones (The Real True Leader of the Rolling Stones)/Johnny Thunders Was A Human Being
Fuel Records
Punk-pop mash up meisters, The Bermondsey Joyriders are back with a double A-sided single. This release is a homage to two of the bands fave guitarists, as suggested by the titles. The band’s usual jack hammer delivery is used more sparingly than usual here.
As well as subject material, the tracks take their musical cues firmly from the ‘60’s. ‘Brian Jones’ is built round a solid riff lashed to a strutting, growled Gary Lammin chorus. The song narrates the rise and still suspicious fall of the Stones’ guitarist amid an arrangement flecked with harmonies and touches from the band’s heyday. ‘Johnny Thunders’ goes a bit further and has a stripped down ‘Brown Sugar’ riff big and bold throughout the track.
There’s also some sharp slide guitar and neat rhythms to feast on. The Joyriders are band going places. Their third album is already in the can (watch this space) and shows a return to their more familiar territory.
This feels like a fun little diversion along the way.
