Album review: THREE ELEMENTS – Generation Y

THREE ELEMENTS – Generation Y

Self release [Release date 20.06.15]

Three Elements have apparently earned themselves the title of ‘the heaviest pop band of Switzerland’. Not too sure how much competition there is for this title but it does sum the band up nicely. Taking elements of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Danko Jones and the Foo Fighters the band master in short, sharp melodic rock with a punk attitude.

Listening to the album it would appear that Mr Grohl and co have had a big influence, especially in the way the songs are constructed. There are lot of Foo Fighters trademark guitar and drum parts across the album which will sound familiar, but Three Elements are far from a Foo’s tribute act.

Songs like ‘Don’t Do This’ and ‘Far Away’ have an infectious groove and a sunny disposition that you can’t help but like. Frontman Marco Sudu Sulzener has a decent voice with a hint of a punk snarl which works well with the music.

This album won’t set the world on fire and I don’t think Dave Grohl has too much to fear about the competition just yet. Heavy pop from Switzerland? Looks like they tick all the boxes.  ***
