Amazing to think The Answer’s debut album was released 10 years ago and this double CD special edition is a must for fans, plus the album gets a proper vinyl release. I won’t review the album itself (see archive link below), save to save it has been remastered and still sounds a mighty fine album.
The second disc will be the one for the fans, 13 songs including nine demos from 2004. Turning to the demos first, ‘New Day Rising’ sounds like U2 and finally got a release on 2011′s ‘Revival’ album. The demos do sound highly polished and the slide guitar on ‘Preachin’ comes across heavier than the finished version.
The 2016 mix of ‘Under The Sky’ fair blasts the rafters! One to really play loud. ‘Take It Easy’ is an acoustic blues stomper and highlights his strong, blues based vocals. The 2006 version of ‘Rise’ rounds off the bonus disc in style, starting off acoustic before the band kicks in and with added strings backing.
The Answer certainly made a statement with their debut album, which has sold over 100,000 copies worldwide. They may have struggled sales wise to match this but the band are still going strong and last year’s ‘Raise A Little Hell’ album was a marked return to form. Fans of the band need this and if you are new to the band, start here as The Answer produced one of the best debut albums from a blues based, hard rock band in the past decade. ****
