Last Autumn’s Dream are not strangers to the odd cover having covering songs by Wizzard and REO Speedwagon on past albums. This time around they opted to do a whole album of covers of songs they love and as you’d expect it has a 70′s bias in the main on the song selection.
Mikael Erlandsson sis as usual on top form rattling through the Loverboy classic ‘Working For The Weekend’ and the Sweet’s ‘Wig Wam Bam’. On the latter the band’s harmony vocals really do the song justice.
It is not all well known songs through as they cover John Miles’ ‘Slow Down’ and Street’s ‘If Love Should Go’ (Mike Slammer’s song writing talents also appear on a City Boy cover on here) - if you haven’t heard the original Streets albums, featuring Steve Walsh of Kandsas fame on vocals, do track them down.
Bassist Nalle Pahlsson takes the mic stand on the Kiss cover ‘All The Way’ and he suits this one well. They of course cover fellow Swedes Abba and again not an obvious choice in ‘When I Kissed The Teacher’. Again the band’s love of harmony vocals really does this song justice.
An enjoyable set of covers, not obvious ones from the well known artists and some lesser known bands featured like Headpins, which after hearing on the album makes you want to discover more from the original artist, always a sign of a good cover version. ****
