Album review: ALASCA – Plea For Peace

ALASCA - Plea For Peace

ALASCA Plea For Peace Good Deeds Music [Release date 03.08.18]

Endorsed by both Bob Harris and Jan Akkerman, AlascA have to be something special, right?

Well, the indie folk three piece – Frank Bond (songwriter, guitar, bass and vocals), Ferdinand Jonk (guitar, banjo, vocals) and Louis van Sinderen (drums, percussion), plus assorted guest players, like to keep their audience guessing, changing styles with each release.

With their sophomore release Prospero (2015) – which incidentally you can pick up new or used for a couple of quid from Amazon – the Amsterdam-based group added mariachi trumpets, slide guitars, and Morricone-influenced production elements to their sound.

Those aspects have been largely discarded for their latest offering Plea For Peace, instead aiming to marry the flower power of Arthur Lee’s Love with 1990′s indie pop exemplified by the likes of The Lightning Seeds.

Sounding fresh and revitalised, Plea For Peace hits that mark, marrying the feel good factor of the ‘summer of love’ with indie roots based pop.  If you’re a fan of The Coral and weren’t convinced by their venture into psychedelia, AlascA could be worth exploring.  ***
