Album review: HANK ERIX – Nothing But Trouble

HANK ERIX - Nothing But Trouble

Cargo/Livewire [Release date 05.10.18]

Hank Erix is probably best known as the frontman for Swedish melodic rock band Houston and now, after releasing five albums with said band, is about to unleash his debut solo album “Nothing But Trouble”. Very good it is too, in fact, I’d go as far as saying that this record contains everything that you would want from a modern melodic rock album, it is slick, polished and full of all those little ‘80’s elements that you would expect.

The quality of the songs on “Noting But Trouble” is strong from the off and producer Mats Ericsson has done an exceptional job. The album’s first single “Fortune Hunter” has echoes of Dokken to it and like in the good old days of rock albums, this one contains song after song that could be released as a single.

“Shadowlands”, “Turn To Darkness” and “Way To Go” are the stand out tracks for me, but there is also a duet with Linnea Vikström in “Affair of The Heart” and the acoustic “For The Restless and The Young”.

“Nothing But Trouble” will appeal to fans of Houston and of good melodic rock in general, it is definitely an album that deserves your attention. ****
