With Last Autumn’s Dream on hiatus due to the band members’ various commitments, vocalist Mikael Erlandsson has put together Autumn’s Child, which is a bit of a Swedish melodic rock ‘supergroup’. Joining him are HEAT’s keyboards player Jona Tee, Moon Safari’s guitarist Pontus Åkesson, Claes Andreasson (acoustic guitar, keys) and drummer Robban Bäck (Eclipse, W.E.T).
The main difference here is the greater use of keyboards, which may be due to Jona Tee’s influence in the songwriting (although hard to find any songwriting credits online). ‘Face The Music’ is a nice little bit of AOR, with plenty of keys. Song of the album by a country mile.
‘You’re Breaking My Heart Again’ is the sort of melodic rock Michael Erlandsson’s vocals suit down to the ground. ‘Victory’ and ‘Everytime’ fulfil the ballad quota, again both feature plenty of keyboards action.
Autumn’s Child have obvious similarities with Last Autumn’s Dream, namely in the vocals, however they have a more modern AOR/melodic rock sound. A good, solid debut and here’s hoping Autumn’s Child is more than a one-off grouping. ***1/2
