Sometimes you just need something that serves up no frills thrills, just full on, straight ahead adrenaline soaked excitement. Roxy Girls bring you just that. This total blast of an EP brings seven perfectly formed and punchy hits of old school punk that’s angular and full of New Wave energy. ‘Dirtier’ sums this approach up in a succinct two minutes and all the tracks tear by in equally short bursts. ‘Commands’ adds a fractured XTC meets Talking Heads flavour into the mix and ‘You Have to Waste Your Time’ teeters into experimental areas whilst ‘Poor Cow’ is a stop/start riot of sound. Over the course of the EP, Roxy Girls show themselves more than capable of stretching themselves beyond the normal confines of the genre but base the fury firmly on the shoulders of those who came before and add their own twists.
In these unsettled times this could well be the ideal music to soundtrack the revolution. ****
