EP review: LITTLE LORE

LITTLE LORE

www.littlelore.uk [Release date 03.12.21]

Little Lore is the new alter-ego and debut solo EP from Indie-Americana singer-storyteller, Tricia Duffy. Tricia rapidly caught the attention of the Americana world as one half of the duo Duffy & Bird, with their 2019 release enjoyed by fellow GRTR! scribe Pete Whalley. Now we have this six song EP from Little Lore aided by producer and multi-instrumentalist, Oli Deakin, with drummer Morgan Karabel playing on all but one song.

Little Lore: “It actually felt like a natural progression to start working on solo project, I am immensely proud of everything we achieved with Duffy & Bird but my confidence as a writer has definitely grown and I felt ready to take more creative control over this record.”

‘Hyacinth’ is a sure fire airplay/playlist choice being a jaunty piece of Americana. Apparently the lyrics has references to an 80’s sitcom older readers may remember! ‘Skin In The Game’ cleverly mixes Americana with an indie feel and again the song shows what a fine vocal Little Lore possesses.

‘Sleep Again’ is another timely reminder of the effects of climate change, subtly done though with a gentle melody and lyrics that don’t preach, instead have you thinking. ‘Orbit’ takes a more traditional country love song route, with more stellar instrumental backing from Oli Deakin.

Little Lore has laid down a convincing set of songs as she sets out on her solo journey. More country/Americana in overall sound than the folk leanings of Duffy & Bird but still worthy of your listening time and attention. ***1/2
