JMS Randy Savage YouTube
JMS is back with another new song which is named after American wrestler Randy Savage. It is another gentle pop tune looking backwards (loving the namechecks to Cagney & Lacey and the A Team!) and forwards in a person’s life. With the Lightning Seeds back in action JMS provide a perfect complement. Pop perfection kids.
NICKELBACK San Quentin BMG
Never quite sure why Nickelback are loathed by many rock fans as they are one of the few rock acts, outside of the bands from before the early 90s, that can sell out the stadiums and still produce decent music. ‘San Quentin’ is the first offering from their new album ‘Keep Rollin’ which is due on November 18. Certainly a heavy beast of a tune and bodes well for the upcoming album. Put aside any preconceptions and enjoy a decent, modern rock song.
STRYPER Transgressor Frontiers
Third single lifted of the band’s forthcoming ‘The Final Battle’ album (out on October 21), they have achieved what vocalist Michael Sweet stated, a 100MPH rocker. Quite possibly the most metal the band have ever been and Michael Sweet still hits those high notes with ease.
Like Nickelback, Stryper are a proper Marmite band being too Christian in their lyrics for some metal fans and too heavy for the secular music market. Sad really as good music is exactly that regardless of label and Stryper have that in spades.
JESUS JONES Wired and Windburned Demon Music Group
Not strictly a new song, as it is part of a 15CD box set entitled ‘Some of the Answers’ from Demon Music Group. The aforementioned box set not only includes the band’s six studio albums but also over 150 demos, rarities and unreleased tracks. Jesus Jones may not be your usual GRTR! fare but they have their own unique sound and this song goes big on the guitar riffs, although the drums seem to be courtesy of Bontempi…
HAMISH HAWK Think Of Us Kissing
First single from Hamish Hawk’s second album ‘Angel Numbers’ due on February 3. Written about the pitfalls of the music industry and the fact Hamish Hawk is not what you’d call mainstream, he has produced another infectious tune coupled with his talent for lyrics that resonate with the listener. A pleasing taster from what will surely be an early musical treat in 2023.
